As a part of Sherman Cymru's imminent re-opening (this weekend) visitors are being asked to commit their memories of the theatre to postcards in order to help create a timeline of patron's memories.

Last night I drew these postcards based on characters from two amazing shows I saw there.

Truckers of Husk - Accelerated Learning Album Launch

This coming Saturday (26th November) sees another RAD gig from Shape Functions, this time it's the launch party for the Truckers of Husk Accelerated Learning LP which will feature sets from ~~those spirit channeling mentalists Bear Man~~ (now Zwolf will be replacing Bear man who cancelled due to injury), the ambi-dextrous-instrumentalists Right Hand Left Hand and, of course heading the bill will be the Truckers' themselves! If the Shape stage gig at Swn festival was anything to go by then this should be a gig to remember! In honour of this night I've re-arranged and re-drawn some of the elements from the cover art into an album-lyric inspired zine which will only be available at the launch. I've printed up 110 copies which will be free to good homes!

Just been to pick up a copy of the Truckers of Husk LP which I drew artwork for. I'm really chuffed with how it turned out! Not sure if it is visible in the pictures but the sleeve is printed on the soft side of the card (usually on the inside) so it's kind of an off-white matte which looks and feels really nice, Hywel of Truckers has done a great job with the layout of the cover+centre labels too!

The Album is out now on Shape records and if you buy the LP you'll also get a download code for an mp3 version. There's also a deal on at Spillers Records (the oldest record store in the world) which includes the LP and a ticket to the release launch on the 26th November. Now go and buy it!

Made it along to the Inkygoodness Character Totem Homecoming on Thursday night. It was great! - So much fantastic work on show and such a nice atmosphere with live music, live drawing and tons of freebies and cool stuff to buy too. We couldn't hang around for long as we were on our way to a village called Badger (seriously) for my girlfriend's sister's wedding.

Just got these pictures from my mate David Eason showing the silver fuzz factory style pedal he built which I painted a Jackalope onto, and the mini oscillator unit I built him as a moving present when he left Cardiff. It's nicknamed God's Balls as it's HEAVY, 3 oscillators blended thru one another via small signal diodes. No volume control, just an on switch and a pitch control for each oscillator. The box features a graphic I made for a split CDR I did with Dsic some time back.

All will become clear in due course but what I can say is that it's got to be RAD given the amount of work going into it. Got some prints left from the Curio show up at the shop - Namely the 'Lycan Mask' Screenprint in blue, printed in an edition of 24 on Somerset paper these are different to a previous edition which was printed on heavyweight cartridge paper, with a heavier cotton paper and a slightly different grey/blue ink mix. Secondly, the 'In The Woods' giclee print on A3 photorag which is in a super-limited edition of 10 only. EVER.
Both £30 including shipping to UK addresses, both also availabe from the excellent HERE gallery in Bristol.

Went to the 50/50 art show at Undertone (beneath Ten Feet Tall) in Cardiff on Thursday night.
There was SO MUCH work on show and the place was rammed!
Some RAD drawings and prints as well as textiles-based work and a bit of ceramics were on show taking up every available wall-space and tables throughout the club.
Totally forgot to take any pictures to preserve the moment by, but there's gonna be more in future.
Can't wait!

Going to put a couple of prints into this show:

It's one night only at Undertone in Cardiff (beneath Ten Feet Tall).

The premise is that all works shown will cost between 50pence and £50. So far it looks like there are a ton of excellent people involved, all bringin great and importantly cheap artworks.

Mine are both going to be framed and priced at £30 each. They will be from the recent Cartridge paper run of Lycan Mask prints and from the run of Menschenfleisch prints I ran some time back.

Finally got around to reading 'The Great God Pan' today, whilst on a train journey back from Manchester. I had been told that I would enjoy it, and that the writings of Arthur Machen had influenced H.P. Lovecraft but I hadn't expected the influences to be so transparent! It really is an excellent read and, if you are anything like me and have troubles blocking out train noise, or passenger noise an Ipod or laptop is a handy thing to read it on as you can play music at the same time. In this case I was listening to Svarte Griener's 'Knive' LP which couldn't have worked better as an accompaniment to this sinister collection of tales.
Anyway, I was reading it on my iPod touch and thought it worth mentioning that there's this app called Stanza which is a virtual book type app - it's free and you can download tons of excellent books which are out of copyright and therefore totally free of charge... I typically download them from Feedbooks as I find that they have the most consistent catalog for the stuff I've been downloading.

On my outward journey I'd gone for something totally different to distract me for at least part of the journey in Joe Daly's hilarious comic 'Dungeon Quest: Book One' on the excellent Fantagraphics Books, it only lasted me about 20mins on first read as it's so good I couldn't help but just blast right through it. It's an adventure story, based around a bored kid's desire for something, anything more exciting than homework and it uses all kinds of read-your-own-adventure, or 'Fighting Fantasy' conventions such as stats cards for each character and increased bounty with each conquest, but set around a small suburb and it's imagined neighbourhoods.
Alas, I'm afraid I can't do it any justice so thankfully Fantagraphics have posted the first 12 pages so you can get a taster for it here.
Oh, almost forgot - the soundtrack to this was a bit of King Crimson: Lark's Tongues in Aspic pt1 some Hawkwind: Choose your Masques, Silver Machine which also entered late night Tweets and Sunn O))): It Took The Night to Believe

Somehow the actual time spent in Manchester wasn't as fruitful as I'd hoped - largely due to getting up to leave at 5am and leaving the bag of zines I'd planned to distribute around likely galleries and shops at home - Durrr. Otherwise it was RAD fun tho - especially witnessing Janie-B's impromptu birthday drink - fuelled Kate Bush impersonation which lasted an epic Wuthering Heights!

My computer screen is dying.. it's a white G5 iMac (ambient light) the version just before they added webcams. I've tried using Disk Utitlites, done a complete erase and restore and even taken it apart to check that the wires to the LCD are connected but if anyone has any other suggestions that might help i'd be happy to hear them!

Went to the Sweet Baboo album launch at Clwb Ifor Bach last night and Truckers Of Husk were playing, Hywel gave me a copy of the Awesome Tapes From Africa/Person for the Person Cassette which Truckers' have put out and are selling presently - I think there's only 100 copies or so and they are going for £2.50 a pop, you can buy them HERE and, apparently on the Sebon site and Spillers i think).
There's a vinyl sticker of the elephant/cassette image which I drew for the band in there too which is... Awesome!

Took a trip to Bath today and found this excellent book in the equally excellent Topping and Company bookshop...

Read the first couple of chapters on the way home and scanned much of the rest and so far it seems to be totally comprehensive and nowhere near as dull as some instructional print books that I have read. It also follows some artists through their working processes and doesn't patronize at all, offering some theory on how printmaking has been received historically as an art form and the viability of works which may often appear as multiples. Usually, of course the singularity of a work of art is something taken for granted....
Anyway I'm gonna use it to swot up on techniques before I have time to get some more printing done (when my present job ends late September). Thinking about Lino/Woodcuts for home-based work in particular but could really do with a better knowledge of more methods.

Finally get to add to this post now that a new and fully functioning keyboard has arrived for my desktop.
What you see here is an image I screened last year adorning a 2xCassette release on my friend Greg's label - LF records,
by the noise band Menschenfleisch which features Greg AKA Dsic, Anton Maiof of Geisha and Nick Talbot of Gravenhurst.
I didn't produce the artwork on the inside but I figured it's worth showing in it's entirety as it's so good!

Test Painting of Jackalope for David Eason's guitar pedals. Hopefully more to follow in a few months. This is the first time i've painted using enamels and they're pretty unforgiving but I think it looks better than spraypaint or a vinyl sticker which were our other options.
The Pedal itself is a wonderful re-imagining of the Zvex Fuzz Factory pedal. This one won't be up for sale but in future ideas are to build bespoke instruments and pedals for musicians and noise-makers.
